Auction Fantasy Baseball 101

fantasy baseball auction values  Auction fantasy baseball seems to be the current trend or wave of the future regarding fantasy baseball. Fading fast are the traditional fantasy baseball drafting methods. Too time consuming, too boring and completely ineffective - this has opened the door for auction fantasy baseball.

Certain fantasy baseball software enhances the auction fantasy baseball experience. It allows users to determine auction values - and unlike traditional fantasy baseball magazines - the fantasy baseball software used today can stay up to the minute as a training camp injury - or rumors of success - can change that value immediately.

Where auction fantasy baseball differs from traditional fantasy baseball is mainly the fantasy baseball draft process. One still implements the a draft-like order for auction fantasy baseball - but instead of drafting, the player offers up and auction amount for the player they want to attain. The opening bid is announced and auction-style bidding ensues, hence "auction fantasy baseball." The highest bidder gets the player and the amount that won the bid is deducted from the salary cap. This ensues until all fantasy rosters are full. Auction fantasy baseball is much less time consuming than the standard fantasy baseball draft where tons of time is burned choosing players. With auction fantasy baseball, players have to put up or shut up immediately.

Auction fantasy baseball, also called "Dynasty Fantasy Baseball", is hitting home with the diehard fantasy baseball fanatics because it levels the playing field. Everyone has equal footing regarding drafting top players. Participants of auction fantasy baseball has every chance to get any player, no matter their draft position. You still have to choose and spend your salary cap money wisely with auction fantasy baseball - but the days of those choosing last, getting the worst picks? No more. Auction fantasy baseball truly enhances the entire fantasy baseball draft experience and makes it much more interactive. Trash talking is invited if someone is too cheap to pony up for a player - and strategies can be built around putting on one's poker face to get other participants to waste their salary cap or pick up a player another participants of auction fantasy baseball had no true desire to buy.

Strategies with auction fantasy baseball can vary. Some folk like to spend about 2/3 of their salary cap on the standard "can't miss" type players like Randy Moss, Clinton Portis, Daunte Culpepper, Donovan McNabb or LaDanian Tomlinson. With dynasty fantasy baseball, the other 1/3 can be spent on fantasy baseball sleepers or fantasy baseball rookies.

Another key with auction fantasy is to pay close attention to what players are selling for. Make notes on your fantasy baseball cheat sheet so you can determine how your fantasy baseball league perceives value regarding auction fantasy baseball. Example, if the number ten wide receiver your fantasy baseball cheat sheet sold for $20 and the seventh ranked receiver just sold for $15 -- you were about to pay too much for the fantasy baseball player you were targeting. Overpaying for players can kill a salary cap in auction fantasy baseball so pay attention to trend and make sure not to overspend.

Creating a Contest
You can also create your own weekly fantasy baseball competitions.  When you set up a contest you'll decide:

  • the NFL Week of competition
  • the max # of participants
  • the draft date/time
  • the required entry fee (and thus the winning prize amount)
  • public/private contest

Next, you invite friends and other Playerline users to participate. If you make your contest "public" then other people will be able to join your contest until your maximum number of participants is reached.

Challenges (or invites) may also be sent to other Playerline users and friends who have not yet registered (they'll be prompted to create their account before joining the contest).

Live Draft
Every contest has a scheduled "Live Draft" in which owners pick players and assemble their teams in real-time. Drafts are conducted much like traditional fantasy baseball accept you only pick 9 players for a starting roster (1QB, 2RB's, 3WR's, 1TE, 1D, 1K).

Rankings Players
You don't have to be present for your contest's draft. Beforehand you can rank NFL players for that particular week (based upon their matchups etc.) and the system will automatically draft for you. Your status is set to autodraft if you are not present in the Live Draft Room so you never have to worry about not being able to field a team.

Fantasy football games are weekly so you create your player rankings based upon the NFL player matchups for that week.

Transactions ("Add/Drops")
After the draft is conducted the Contest Details page will display the draft results and the resulting teams of all owners. At this point all owners may do transactions on a first come, first serve basis. Participants may add free agents to their team but they must drop a current player at the same position to make room for that player. Each transaction (one added player and one dropped player) incurs a .50 transaction fee that is deducted from the owners Playerline account.

*Owners can do transactions immediately after the draft is conducted and up until 5 minutes before kickoff of the first game of the week.
